REAL JOB OPENINGS - Quick Search &
Secure Sessions for Classic Services

January 1, 2007
-
SkillTRAN deployed three important new features for your convenience and your security.
  1. By customer request, SkillTRAN added a new feature to the web-based service so that you can quickly launch a search for Real Job Openings. Just add or choose your client, then click the "Get Real Jobs" button on the Client Information screen. You can enter any single occupation or keyword(s) for that client and the search will be conducted based on your simple input, within an adjustable radius of the client's zip code. As in the standard Real Job Openings area, you can save as many actual job openings to a list specific for that client. The other method of searching by each occupation chosen in the occupations screen for additional Labor Market Research (LMR) continues the same.

  2. SkillTRAN has finally found and deployed a suitable and secure alternative to Telnet. Just use the service as you normally would. All data transmitted between your keyboard and the SkillTRAN server is encrypted. Many have already commented that they prefer the new black letters on a white background.

  3. The new Online Service login page has also been revised to detect your Web Browser type and remind you to only use Internet Explorer to access this site. The page also tests for and advises you on several key issues including Pop-Up Blockers, Screen Resolution, and Text Size. If there are any problems with the way that your Web Browser appears, the new login page will prompt you with solution(s).

      - 2004-2014 OES Long Term National Employment Projections by NAICS Industry
      - Occupational Density Factor (Percentage) of OES occupations by NAICS Industry - useful for better estimation of local OES employment numbers by DOT code

Fresh Business Listings Now Available

November, 2006
-
SkillTRAN updated the dataset of business listings to be used for cold job search and labor market survey. The new data set is smaller (only 10+ million records vs. 15 million), but the quality of the listings should be even better.

SkillTRAN has begun some statistical studies to evaluate the relationship between the structure of the SkillTRAN data set and Federal Government County Business Patterns, which ultimately emerge from Federal tax records. Comparing the frequency with which each NAICS (National Industry Classification System) code is found in the SkillTRAN vs. the government County Business Patterns, the initial correlation is .93 which is highly significant. More studies will be done, but your confidence in the SkillTRAN Business Listing data set should rise given this finding.

REAL JOB OPENINGS - 5.5 MILLION - Updated Daily

August 8, 2006
- SkillTRAN introduced the ultimate professional tool for job search and labor market survey - access to REAL JOB OPENINGS. SkillTRAN has integrated access to more than 5.5 MILLION current job openings, none more than 60 days old, everywhere in the country. Between 75,000 and 125,000 new openings are posted each day. The data is combined from daily research of 170,000+ job boards and company web sites. SkillTRAN supplements this job openings data with relevant available Labor Market Information. Results are grouped by company name and job posting source to make follow-up calls a breeze. There is no distracting advertising and no need sign on or register at individual sites.

This is the fastest, most efficient, and most comprehensive research tool ever created to facilitate real job search and labor market survey. Individual openings can be instantly reviewed and optionally saved to a custom list per client. Click here for more details.

Also available are fresh Occupational Employment Survey Employment Numbers and Wage data for May, 2005 - National, Statewide, and for Metropolitan and new Micropolitan Statistical Areas (MSA). The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) has modified its geographic boundaries for a number of these MSA areas and increased the number of local areas reported from 356 to 398 distinct areas, including new emphasis on the New England region.

Long term national occupational employment projections are also available with 2004 as the base year and 2014 as the projected employment year.

NEW CENSUS-BASED WAGE / EMPLOYMENT DATA

Spring, 2006 - SkillTRAN replaced Census occupation wage and employment data for Combined Men and Women, Men Only and Women only. Wages are reported using mean and median values. Census data is gathered during the monthly household Current Population Survey (CPS) and reported annually at the national level only. The data is available both in PREPOST and in the new web-based services for Labor Market Information.

FRESH BUSINESS LISTINGS AND LABOR MARKET INFORMATION (LMI)

December 16, 2005 - SkillTRAN announced updated business listings today and new LMI. The updated LMI is Occupational Employment Survey (OES) data (wages and employment numbers) as of November, 2004. The updated data covers all national, statewide, and MSA - Metropolitan Statistical Areas. The data is always at least one year behind.

SkillTRAN also announced the availability of new documentation of all of these data resources. Customers should contact SkillTRAN for more details or login to the new web-based server, then click the Support hyperlink in the upper right corner.

LABOR MARKET INFORMATION
NOW AVAILABLE ON WEB-BASED SERVICES

August 20, 2005 - SkillTRAN has expanded its new web-based services to include Labor Market Information (LMI). The new features enable selection of the most current government LMI for both wages and the number of people employed by occupation. New LMI includes Current Population Survey (CPS) national wage and employment data (including unpublished values) for year 2004 collected by the Bureau of the Census. This annual data uses the new Census 2000 occupational codes and can be requested by gender, mean, and median. CPS data is self-reported by household survey respondents.

New LMI also includes Occupational Employment Survey (OES) data collected at the National, State, and local MSA levels. Mean and %ile median wage data is available with employment numbers current as of May, 2004. OES data is reported by employers and is updated twice per year.

Additionally, National Occupational Employment Projections for Years 2002-2012 are available. These new report formats can be combined with each other in a single report to enable a highly customized report, with or without business listings. Customers using the classic PPS system for Transferable Skills Analysis will find that the most currently selected occupations from a search are automatically transferred to the new server for LMI as a group of occupations, just as are now done for requests for business listings.

Business Listings have also been updated on the normal quarterly schedule.

Business Listings Data Updated

May 25, 2005 -
As announced earlier in the month, business listing data has been updated. A whopping 96.2% of the listings have phone numbers that match current directory assistance files. This should substantially increase the reliability of labor market survey contacts. A total of 13.2+ million new business listings are now available to customers for Job Search or Labor Market Survey by NAICS code, radius around a client's zip code, by city name, county/counties, MSA, statewide, or nationally. Customer feedback about the changes introduced early this month have been quite favorable.

SkillTRAN Deploys Secure Web Server and New Source for Business Listings

May 3, 2005 - The BUSINESS LISTING module has been greatly improved. We have changed our data supplier to Firmagraphix, a division of Market Models. The business listings database is gathered from research of more than 200 different public Federal, State, and local data sources such Chambers of Commerce, Applicants for government grants, etc. As a "Business to Business" file, it is compiled using proven methodologies to identify as many unique business entities, large and small, everywhere in the United States. More than 13.2 + million unduplicated businesses are on file that are frequently verified from multiple sources (not just outdated annual Yellow Page listings or historical business credit information).

Reports are now prepared in seconds instead of minutes. Reports can be immediately printed, it can be securely saved on your local computer, or it can be emailed to you. Corporate customers can elect to suppress the email feature if it would compromise their HIPAA or other regulatory compliance - contact SkillTRAN for details.

The new data set is current as of February, 2005 and will be updated again on a quarterly basis. Some new data fields are included in the report, such as the Year Started and a SOHO flag to indicate if the business is a Small Office or Home Office. Since there can be multiple contacts at a company, the data set is built with a bias towards those with hiring authority who can best answer your labor market questions during survey. In the upcoming data file (available mid-May and all subsequent updates), phone numbers are validated against Directory Assistance files - so that your labor market survey efforts will be increasingly accurate.

Smart selection technology employed at SkillTRAN favors random selection among the most reliable listings available when a subset of the available listings in a given area are chosen. Random selection within your chosen geogrphic and industry parameters is consistent with proper sampling techniques.

All in all, we are very excited about these newest changes. There are some additional data elements in the new database that SkillTRAN expects to be able to use in exciting new ways as well. We look forward to your additional questions and comments. We are diligently at work on the next phase of development - delivery of multiple sources of current labor market information for wages and numbers employed.

NEW CENSUS 2004 NATIONAL WAGE DATA

March 3, 2005 - New Census 2004 national median wage and employment data is now installed in all the classic online services. The data uses the new Census 2000 codes used by the Bureau of Labor Statistics in the monthly Current Population Survey (CPS). Data includes unpublished wage and employment data for occupations with fewer than 50,000 workers nationally. As the number of workers surveyed shrinks, the standard error of measurement for this data increases.
