Online Service Updates – Employers & LMI
SkillTRAN
has updated a number of important files in its popular online
services. SkillTRAN has changed to a new provider for employer
listings (useful for Labor Market Survey/Sampling and Cold Job
Search). These listings cover only employers with 10 or more
employees, where most of the new hiring is likely to happen. Your
“hit rate” during survey should be significantly
improved since the random selection process will not be skewed by
the abundance of smaller, more volatile employers. Let us know
how it works out for you! Other updated data files include:
OES
2010 - Occupational Employment Numbers and Wages as reported May
2011 for May 2010
2008-2018
- Long Term Employment Projections
2006
NOC Codes (Canadian National Occupational Classification)
O*NET
2009, O*NET 2010 Codes & CENSUS 2010 Codes
PREPOST Customers
(12/3/2011):
Customers
who use the PREPOST service will be pleased to know that the
feature for Labor Market information (US National and Local
Estimated Wages) has been restored and uses the 2010 CENSUS data.
We apologize for the issues you may have experienced with this
aspect of the system during the last several weeks.
August 2011 Job
Browser Pro Update - Version 1.6.5
You may not notice a
lot of big changes, as we choose to continue a similar look and
feel. However, a number of new code systems have been added to
align with changes made by the U.S. Department of Labor. These
include the addition of several new occupational coding systems,
including:
SOC
2010 - Standard Occupational Classification (used for OES
Employment Numbers and Wages)
O*NET
2009 - Used by the O*NET systems until Fall 2011
O*NET
2010 - Used by O*NET going forward beginning Fall 2011
CENSUS 2010 -
In use by the Current Population Survey, with reporting to begin
January 2011
All of these codes
can now be seen in the Quick View Codes section when a DOT
description is displayed (Detailed Job Specialty).
FRESH DATA FILES
have been added as follows:
OES
2010 - Occupational Employment Numbers and Wages as reported May
2011 for May 2010
2008-2018
- Long Term Employment Projections
Revised
"Top Jobs" - using the 2008-2018 Occupational
Projections
Part-Time
Percentages have been updated using the 2009 American Community
Survey public microdata set. Formerly, these values were based on
a 3-year rolling average and published in the Occupational
Projections and Training Data (OPTD) by U.S. Dept. of Labor. US
DOL used the ACS data to prepare the 3-year rolling average.
SkillTRAN has chosen to use only the most current available year
(2009) as it will be more sensitive to changes in our economy.
Since
most citations of SkillTRAN's data sources are for legal
purposes, formatting has been changed to align with the legal
"Bluebook" style rather than the APA style of citation.
2006 NOC Codes
(Canadian National Occupational Classification) have been added
to the QuickView display.
We will have
2010-2011 Occupational Outlook Handbook added soon as well.
You will notice a
fresh graphic of a "Windmill" on the Interest search
button and a re-wording of the Interest codes to "RIASEC
Interest Coding". You can use any Interest inventory to
generate a RIASEC code, enter it here with a range of SVP. Then
you can drill down to specific DOT occupations within that range
through O*NET groups. Very handy for career exploration and
planning.
The SOC / O*NET code
search now uses the newest SOC 2010 coding system. We have
discontinued access to the very old OES codes. It will be replaced
soon with a new search. Stay tuned!
On the Detailed Job
Specialty screen, the ONET Online button will take you directly to
the O*NET DOT crosswalk page. You can choose on O*NET code to
search from there, and a level of reporting detail.
The Physical Demands
button now shows a full listing of all the various Physical Demand
characteristics and Environmental Conditions. Previously, it had
reported only the conditions that showed Occasional, Frequent, or
Constant frequency.
